About the Author
Meet David Parker
He writes for the person who just said yes to Jesus and doesn't quite know what happens next.
David is the author of First Steps: A Guide for Your New Life with Jesus, a plainspoken companion for new believers. His writing grew out of years spent sitting across from people in the earliest days of their faith — answering the same honest questions, again and again, with the same patient care.
His Story
How First Steps began
David didn't set out to write a book. For years, he simply kept a running list — the questions new believers asked him most, scribbled on napkins, in the margins of sermon notes, in late-night text messages. What is a Christian, really? How do I know God is listening? Do I have to go to church? Why does the Bible matter?
Over time, the list became a pattern, and the pattern became a conviction: new believers weren't short on desire to grow. They were short on someone willing to sit with them and start from the beginning, without judgment and without jargon.
First Steps is that sitting-down. It's written the way David would explain it to you over coffee — unhurried, honest about the hard parts, and confident that the foundations of the Christian faith are simple enough for anyone to grasp and sturdy enough to build a whole life on.
Today, David keeps writing and teaching with the same aim: to help people take their next step, whatever step that happens to be.
How David Writes
Three things that shape every page
The same principles that guide First Steps guide everything David writes and teaches.
01
Clarity Over Cleverness
No jargon, no assumed background. If a new believer can't follow it, David rewrites it until they can.
02
Companionship, Not a Lecture
Every chapter is written like a letter from a friend further down the road — not a lesson from a distance.
03
Scripture as the Foundation
Every idea is anchored back to the Bible itself, so readers learn to trust it — not just David.
